Darius Slay, who played the final games of his 13-year NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, announced his retirement Monday.
A six-time Pro Bowl pick, Slay won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. The 35-year-old announced his retirement on social media with a post that highlighted his seasons with the Eagles and Detroit Lions but didn’t mention his brief Steelers stint.
Slay joined the Steelers as a free agent last March, signing a one-year, $10 million contract but was released after 12 games. He started nine times, made 36 tackles and recovered a fumble. He was inactive for two of his final three games.
The Buffalo Bills later claimed Slay on waivers, but he never joined the team.
Slay finished his career with 28 interceptions, 163 passes defended and 655 tackles. He started 176 of 187 career games.
He played his first seven seasons with the Lions, where he earned three Pro Bowl nods. He made an NFL-leading eight interceptions in 2017, earning first-team All-Pro honors.
He joined the Eagles for five seasons starting in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl three more times.
