The Pittsburgh Steelers are losing one cornerback to free agency.
James Pierre will capitalize on his breakout 2025 season and sign as a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings, according to an NFL Network report Monday. Pierre agreed to a two-year, $8.5 million contract with $3.7 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.
Pending free agents were permitted to start negotiating with other teams once the NFL’s legal tampering period began at noon Monday.
The 29-year-old Pierre spent six seasons with the Steelers after first signing as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He appeared in 95 games with 13 starts.
A 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back, Pierre started five games last season when he made 30 tackles, defended 11 passes, returned a fumble for a touchdown and had one interception.
The Steelers reportedly will bring back free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who agreed to a one-year contract earlier Monday.
