Canada geese are a common sight throughout Pennsylvania. And now a Duck that made his home in Pittsburgh is heading north to Canada.
Quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges signed a three-year contract with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League, the team announced Thursday.
“Usually ducks migrate south around this time!” Hodges wrote on Twitter. “But I guess there’s always a few exceptions! Thankful for the opportunity! Thank you Lord!”

Hodges, who signed as an undrafted free agent out of Samford University, became a cult favorite in 2019 in Pittsburgh when he started six games for the Steelers. He won his first start on Oct. 13, 2019, against the Los Angeles Chargers. Hodges sat out the next four games and then came off the bench on Nov. 24 to rally the Steelers past the Bengals. He went on to lead the team to wins over the Browns and Cardinals, before losing his final three starts, against the Bills, Jets and Ravens.
Hodges then spent the 2020 season on the Steelers’ practice squad. In January, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Los Angeles Rams and was waived in August. He had worked out for the New York Giants earlier this month but didn’t receive a contract.
