Saint Francis (Pa.) sports 4 national FCS award finalists

Saint Francis (Pa.) has finalists in four of the the five major categories for the FCS college football awards.

Quarterback Cole Doyle is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award for the national offensive player of the year.

The redshirt sophomore, who transferred from College of the Canyons, is fourth in the FCS with a 179.9 passer rating. He has thrown for 21 touchdowns and three interceptions, completing 68.3% of his throws.

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Colt Jennings, meantime, is one of 15 finalists for the Doris Robinson Student-Athlete Award, for the player who excels on the field an classroom.

Doyle and Jennings join a pair of teammates on the final ballot.

The Red Flash’s 80-reception wideout, Makai Jackson, is a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award for the top freshman receiver.

Coach Chris Villarrial, meantime, is a final contender for the Eddie Robinson Award for the national coach of the year.

Award winners will be honored at the FCS National Awards banquet Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.

The Red Flash (9-2) open the FCS playoffs Saturday at Delaware.
