4-star 2022 guard Jalen Hood-Schifino decommits from Pitt basketball
Jeff Capel’s quest to rebuild the Pitt basketball program hit what he hopes is a temporary roadblock Monday when four-star guard and Penn Hills native Jalen Hood-Schifino re-opened his recruitment. Hood-Schifino, 6-foot-4, verbally committed to Pitt last year as a sophomore.
Schifino is ranked as the 33rd overall prospect by Rivals.com in the class of 2022. He gained increased attention this summer after transferring from Combine Academy in Charlotte, N.C., to powerhouse Monteverde Academy in Orlando, Fla., for his upcoming junior season.
He has scholarship offers from several ACC schools, including Pitt, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. Florida, Ole Miss and Illinois also are on his offer list. Plus, he has attracted interest from several other top schools.
Hood-Schifino remains in contact with Capel’s staff and eventually could sign with Pitt. But he still has two years of high school eligibility.
Meanwhile, Pitt will bring seven newcomers onto the 2020-21 roster, including highly touted freshman William Jeffress of Erie McDowell and Delaware transfer guard Ithiel Horton.
