Andrew Mastovich lived up to the hype.
The senior defender on the Penn State Behrend soccer team was tabbed the preseason defensive player of the year in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
On Tuesday, the honors were validated when he was named AMCC Defensive Player of the Year.
Mastovich, a Franklin Regional graduate, helped the Lions post 10 shutouts and the team surrendered just 12 goals. The center back anchored the defense for the conference champion Lions (19-1), who open the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at Kenyon.
Mastovich, who has three goals this season, is a two-time All-AMCC first-team selection and made the All-ECAC team as a junior.
