G Isaac Seumalo leaves Steelers win with triceps injury; OLB Nick Herbig also hurt

After a week of navigating a list of injuries that was as long as any in recent memory, the Pittsburgh Steelers emerged from Monday night’s win with a relatively short list of injured players. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be potentially impactful.

Starting left guard Isaac Seumalo suffered a triceps injury and outside linebacker Nick Herbig did not finish Monday’s victory against the Miami Dolphins because of a hamstring injury. Each ailment occurred during the second half.

Coach Mike Tomlin did not provide any substantive updates on either other than to acknowledge they were being evaluated.

The Steelers are down to their fourth-string left tackle (Dylan Cook) and are otherwise starting three young second-year players on their offensive line, making the experience of the 10-year veteran Seumalo valuable.

Also, Spencer Anderson filled in for Seumalo. If Anderson has to play guard, that removes him from the “Mr. Eligible” tight end role he has played so often this season — though, in Monday’s game, Ryan McCollum entered the game to play guard when Anderson was called upon to line up as a “jumbo” tight end.

Herbig is the Steelers’ No. 3 outside linebacker — but starter T.J. Watt did not play Monday because of his lung injury suffered last week. There is no guarantee Watt will be able to return in time for Sunday’s game at the Detroit Lions. Converted defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal was summoned from the practice squad to backfill at OLB versus Miami.
