Gateway grad Becca Kubler finds scoring touch for Pitt-Greensburg
Becca Kubler led the Gateway varsity girls soccer team in points all four of her years with the Gators.
Now at Pitt-Greensburg, the junior midfielder/forward again is at the forefront of her team’s offensive aspirations.
Kubler, who played in all eight games, making four starts, through a 3-1 win over John Carroll last Wednesday, owns three goals for the Bobcats.
She rose up with a pair of goals on four shots in a 5-2 victory at Allegheny on Sept. 10.
Kubler got into the scoring mix for the first time this season with a tally in two shots as part of a 3-0 win over Wilson College on Sept. 3.
Pitt-Greensburg improved to 6-2 overall with the win — its fourth in a row — over John Carroll.
The Bobcats were scheduled to face Carlow on Saturday and Hilbert College on Oct. 1.
Kubler joined the team as a freshman in the fall 2020, but her first season was canceled because of the covid pandemic.
She made her debut last year in a 5-0 season-opening win over Thiel, and she made an impact right away with a goal in 62 minutes of playing time on the pitch.
Kubler went on to start 17 games and record 12 points with three goals and six assists. She played every minute in games against Penn State Behrend and Juniata.
Olivia Wood
The senior midfielder on the Chatham College women’s soccer team scored her second goal of the season in a 4-1 victory at Mt. Aloysius on Sept. 14.
The tally came on her only shot of the game.
Wood got into the scoring column for the first time this season in the opener at Juniata, a 2-1 victory. She fired off three shots on goal, scoring her team’s first goal at the 19:32 mark of the first half.
For her career, Wood owns 34 starts in 52 games played and has eight goals and five assists.
Chatham, 4-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 after a 1-1 tie in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener at Grove City last Wednesday, was scheduled to host Waynesburg on Saturday and visit Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday.
Brady Sundin
The Saint Vincent College freshman cross country runner earned Presidents’ Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Sept. 10.
The accolades for the 2022 Gateway grad came two days later after his performance at the Saint Vincent Invitational on Sept. 9.
Sundin was the top freshman finisher at the event, taking 13th overall out of 128 runners in a time of 27 minutes, 33.87 seconds. His place finish helped the Bearcats win the team title by a 50-point margin.
He also was 21st out of 68 at the Westminster College Invitational as Saint Vincent took third behind Franciscan and Robert Morris.
Saint Vincent was to run at the Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday.
Brady Walker
The Saint Vincent quarterback threw a second-quarter touchdown in a win over Thiel on Sept. 17.
He now has a TD toss in 20 of his 21 career starts dating to the 2019 season.
Brady’s 41 career touchdowns are the most in program history. He also ranks third among active PAC quarterbacks in career TDs behind only Case Western Reserve’s Drew Saxton, a South Fayette grad, and Westminster’s Cole Konieczka. Saxton has 85, and Konieczka has 63.
Walker, through three games this season, has completed 38 of 72 passes for 484 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
He threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-21 loss to Washington & Jefferson on Sept. 10.
Jeremiah Joseph
The junior defensive back posted seven tackles in the season opening loss at Florida State on Aug. 27.
He started out the game against Youngstown State with a pair of tackles before leaving the game in the first half with an injury. He didn’t play in the win over Thomas More or the loss last Saturday to Hawaii. A second-team all Northeast Conference selection last year, Joseph made a career-best nine tackles in an upset win over Ohio.
He finished with 32 total tackles and two interceptions.
