Caleb Lehman has made an impact on the Chatham University baseball team for several years, and the Cougars senior catcher continues to perform in his final collegiate season.

The Gateway graduate produced a .358 (34 of 95) average through Chatham’s first 25 games with 18 runs batted in, 21 runs scored, four doubles, two triples and a home run.

He went 2 for 4 as part of a 10-hit Cougars attack in a 3-2 victory over Bethany College on April 16.

It was his ninth multi-hit game of the season, and that total includes a trio of three-hit efforts.

In his four seasons, Lehman owns an overall .364 average (131 of 360).

He hit .393 as a junior in 2021 with 10 doubles, three triples, a home run, 19 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Justin Stancovich

The senior infielder on the La Roche College baseball team rode a four-game hit streak through the Red Hawks’ 18-5 victory over Pitt-Greensburg in the second game of a doubleheader April 20.

He went 1 for 2 with a double, a season-best three runs batted in, and two runs scored in the Game 2 triumph. Stancovich smacked a solo home run, his third of the season, and scored twice in an 11-8 loss to the Bobcats in Game 1.

Jaired Lehman

The sophomore infielder on the Mt. Union Purple Raiders baseball team had one of his best hitting games of the season April 15 at Wilmington College.

He went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the 11-4 victory. He also stole two bases. The hits, runs scored and stolen bases were season bests. The output also capped a three-game stretch where Lehman went 6 of 13 with three RBIs and four runs scored.

Kayla Gratton

The sophomore shortstop and pitcher on the Waynesburg softball team tallied a hit in each game of a doubleheader split with Grove City College on April 19.

The Yellow Jackets won Game 1, 11-2, and Gratton doubled, drove in two runs and scored another. The two RBIs give her 11 for the season. Gratton also is 3-1 in the pitching circle with a 3.60 earned-run average, six strikeouts and no walks in 15 innings of work.

Emma Kennedy

The freshman catcher on the Slippery Rock softball team is an every day starter, and she compiled a five-game hitting streak through a doubleheader split with Clarion on April 15.

Kennedy recorded six hits during that span. She produced her first multi-hit game with two singles and two RBIs in a 5-3 setback against Gannon on April 2. At Pitt-Johnstown on April 11, she collected a season-best three RBIs — two on a single and the third on a fielder’s choice grounder to short.

Shelly Jones

The veteran Clarion thrower captured the shot put title at the Elliston Earlybird Invitational on April 9 at Lock Haven.

She hit her best mark of 12.14 meters (39.8 feet) on her fourth attempt. It was the only throw out of any competitor in the field to clear 12 meters. She also took third in the discus. Jones hit PSAC qualifying marks and placed third in both the shot put (12.21) and discus (38.36) at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on March 26.

The discus distance was a career best.

Luke Whisel

The freshman distance runner on the Waynesburg men’s track and field team earned a second-place finish in the 10,000 meters at the Dave Labor Invitational on April 2 at Slippery Rock.

It was his top finish on the young outdoor season, and he ran to a time of 36 minutes, 8.17 seconds. He also recorded a 10th-place finish in the 5,000 meters (16:48.90) at the Bethany Invitational on March 26. Whisel transitioned to the outdoor season after earning an eighth-place medal in the 5,000 (16:33.15) at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference indoor championships Feb. 24.

Taylor Tomman

The senior sprinter on the Detroit Mercy Division I women’s track and field team placed sixth out of 28 runners in the 400-meter dash at the Oakland University Golden Grizzly Invitational on April 9.

She finished with a time of 1:02.77. It was just the second outdoor meet of the Titans’ spring season. Tomman helped the women’s 1,600-meter relay place sixth at the Horizon League indoor championships Feb. 27.
