Gateway grad Kayla Trozzi honored by Westminster
During her soccer career at Gateway and then for four years at Westminster College, Kayla Trozzi used her speed and scoring touch to make an impact and earn numerous accolades.
Her efforts for the Titans recently were honored with selection to Westminster’s All-Decade Women’s Soccer Team as a first team forward.
“I was completely shocked by it, but also very honored,” Trozzi said.
“When I was a freshman, I learned a lot about the players and teams that came before me in the decade. I knew that I had a lot to live up to and knew how hard I had to work to help maintain the standards they set.”
Gateway graduates Todd Jeter (first team, football) and Kerri Inzinga (second team, women’s soccer) also were selected to one of the all-decade teams.
Trozzi finished her collegiate career as a two-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference first-team honoree (2018 and 2019).
She earned United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region second-team recognition as a senior.
Landing in the top three on the team in goals and points in all four of her seasons at Westminster, Trozzi finished with 30 career goals and 12 assists, totaling 72 points.
She tallied a pair of hat tricks and also recorded 11 career game-winning goals.
Her 13 goals and 31 points as a senior in 2019 ranked second in the PAC and were career-highs. She also added a career-best five assists that season.
“I played with a ton of great teammates,” Trozzi said. “It was so much fun to share the field with them. We worked hard and made a lot of great memories. I loved Westminster and everything it brought me athletically and in my education.”
Trozzi now is taking classes virtually at IUP toward a master’s degree in school counseling. She also stayed close to the game in the fall as a volunteer assistant with the Gateway girls soccer team.
First and second teams for each sport at Westminster were selected by a committee that used designated criteria when pouring over information on each candidate. When the process was completed, the athletic department said there were more qualified candidates than were able to be selected and that tough decisions had to be made.
After starting his career at Temple, Jeter made the move to Westminster and became quickly ingrained in Titans’ defensive game plan from 2014-17.
Westminster’s first PAC Defensive Most Valuable Player, Jeter earned D3football.com All-American honors and was a school-record two-time D3Football.com All-Region selection during his time with the program.
The three-time All-PAC first-team pick with four All-PAC selections overall also was named to the ECAC Division III South All-Star Team three times. He was a first-team ECAC honoree as a senior.
As a shutdown cornerback, Jeter amassed 17 career interceptions, good for fifth in program history and sixth on the PAC’s all-time list.
He returned four of the interceptions for touchdowns, and that number ranks second all-time in PAC history.
Inzinga, a midfielder/forward for the Westminter’s women’s soccer team from 2011-14, was a dependable three-year starter.
She tied for the team lead with a career-high seven goals as a senior and earned All-PA honorable mention honors. She added three assists for a 17 total points, also a career best.
Inzinga finished her Titans career with 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points in 77 games played.
