Georgetown ousts Pitt men's soccer from NCAA Tournament
The Pitt men’s soccer team hoped to continue to make history Sunday afternoon, but Georgetown had other plans.
Three days after achieving their first NCAA Tournament win in program history, the Panthers dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 3-seeded Georgetown in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Shaw Field.
“It’s hard to look and reflect on the year when your last 90 minutes didn’t reflect our year,” Pitt coach Jay Vidovich said in a news release. “There was a lack of competitiveness, work rate and collectiveness. The fact that all of the other great things that the guys accomplished, I would’ve expected us to go out with a really good fight and not a rolling over like we did. I’m sure when we go back and watch this, there will be a lot to learn from it and we’ll grow from it.”
Pitt (10-8-2) fell behind 3-0 in the opening 20 minutes and couldn’t recover.
The Panthers qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1965.
The Hoyas (16-1-3), who held a 12-2 advantage in shots, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.
