The ring and its surrounding seats at Gloria’s Gym in the Monroeville Mall will be full Saturday, Feb. 25, for the opening card of the Western PA Golden Gloves tournament.

The road to the Golden Gloves state and national finals begins Saturday with a loaded card at Gloria’s Gym in the Monroeville Mall.

Both eliminations and championships will be a part of the 14-bout card and will feature Golden Gloves veterans and others new to the amateur tournament.

Eleven of the 14 bouts will be Golden Gloves contests in Bantam, Junior, Elite Sub Novice, Youth, Junior Sub Novice, Elite Novice and Elite Open divisions.

There also will be three non-tournament bouts featuring fighters from Boyce Boxing Gym, Steel City Boxing, Pittsburgh Boxing and South Park Boxing.

Tickets are $25 and only are available at the door. To reserve tickets, text Gloria Cvetic at 412-576-9285.

Golden Gloves officials expect the event to be a sellout. They recommend arriving at 5:30 p.m.

Bell time is 6 p.m.

The Western PA District Golden Gloves schedule continues March 4 at The Bellamauro in Reynoldsville, March 11 at Millvale Community Center and March 25 at Wolfpack Boxing Club in Carnegie.

The Western District Championships will be April 1 at Pro Sports Complex in Monroeville. The PA State Finals also will be at Pro Sports Complex on April 22.

The National Golden Gloves tournament is May 5-13, in Chester.

The Golden Gloves tournament celebrates its 100-year anniversary in 2023. Some of the top boxers in history, names like Sugar Ray Leonard, Mohammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Oscar De LaHoya, are former Golden Gloves champions.

This year, the tournament also is an Olympic qualifier. Boxers who come in first and second at the national tournament will have the opportunity to try out for the U.S. Olympic team in December.
