Nick Turowski chips onto the 18th green during the U.S. Open qualifier May 13 at Quicksilver Golf Club.

West Virginia sophomore and 2024 Penn-Trafford graduate Nick Turowski qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship in San Francisco by placing third in the final local qualifying at The Club at P.B. Dye in Ijamsville, Md., on Thursday.

The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 11-17 at the Olympic Club.

Turowski tied for third by shooting a 3-under par 69.

He was a medalist at the U.S. Junior Am qualifier, the 2023 Western Pennsylvania Golf Association’s Junior Golfer of the Year, West Penn Junior champion, Westmoreland County champion and WPIAL champion in 2021 and 2023.

Logan Reilly of Lovettsville, Va., and Evan Barlin of Elkton, Md., tied for first with a 67.

Shipley leads again

Neal Shipley needs one more victory on the Korn Ferry Tour to earn his PGA Tour card.

If the Mt. Lebanon native plays like he did Thursday during Round 1 of the Price Cutter Charity Championship, that card may came sooner than later.

Shipley shot a 9-under par 63 and is tied for the lead with Austin Hitt and Chandler Blanchet.

Shipley had seven birdies and an eagle during the first round at the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield Mo.
