Green Oaks Country Club pro elected to PGA Board of Directors
Ed Habjan, the widely regarded PGA head golf professional at Verona’s Green Oaks Country Club, was elected Friday during the 104th PGA annual meeting to serve on the organization’s board of directors.
He will take over as the District 4 Director, one of 17 such individuals who work on a variety of issues and projects with the association’s president, vice president, secretary and honorary president.
During his three-year term, Habjan will represent the Central New York, Tri-State and Western New York PGA sections.
“Serving the Tri-State Section over the past 20 years has given me the opportunity to embrace governance,” said Habjan, who has held several leadership positions in the section, including president, vice president, secretary and board member.
“I look forward to collaborating with some of the most respected individuals in the golf industry and advocating for my fellow PGA members on the national level on the PGA Board of Directors.”
The directors include representatives from each of the PGA’s 14 Districts, two independent directors and a member for the PGA Tour.
“The PGA of America is led by some of the most talented PGA members in the world who are elected by their peers and volunteer their time to serve on the PGA Board of Directors,” newly elected PGA President Jim Richerson said in a release announcing Habjan’s election to the board.
“It is truly an honor to serve alongside these dedicated leaders, whose knowledge, insight and expertise will help direct and guide our association in the years ahead.”
Habjan, with more than 34 years of experience as a PGA member, has received several awards and accolades from the Tri-State PGA Section, including the 2020 PGA Bill Strausbaugh Award for day-to-day efforts in mentoring fellow PGA professionals in improving employment situations through service to the community.
Habjan also received PGA Golf Professional of the Year recognition in 2011 and the PGA Merchandiser of the Year award in 2009.
A Gannon graduate, Habjan was a four-year letterman on the Knights men’s golf team and is a member of the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame. He was the only golfer in Gannon history to earn All-America honors in consecutive seasons.
