Handful of PSAC teams head to NCAA football playoffs

For the first time, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will send five teams in the NCAA Division II Football Championship.

Slippery Rock (11-0) earned the top seed in Super Region 1 and has a bye in the first round. The Rock is No. 8 in the American Football Coaches’ Association Poll.

Teams open play Saturday.

No. 13 Kutztown (10-1) is the No. 2 seed and hosts No. 19 Tiffin (9-1).

IUP (10-1) is the No. 4 seed will host Shepherd (9-2). IUP will make its conference-record 20th playoff appearance. West Chester (9-2) is No. 6 and travels to face Notre Dame (Ohio) (10-1).

The national championship will be played 3 p.m. Dec. 21 at McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas and will be broadcast live on ESPNU HD/ESPN3.com.
