Hannastown trio wins Westmoreland County Golf Association scramble
When cold and snowy weather postponed the Westmoreland County Golf Association’s 3-Man Scramble, tournament officials didn’t know what the delay would do to the tournament’s turnout.
It did wonders.
Twenty-six teams participated in the event at The Madison Club, and the Hannastown Golf Club trio of Mark Goetz, Jeff Hovanec and Brandon Antus breezed to the title by shooting a 14-under-par 58.
The event originally was scheduled for May 9, but Western Pa. was hit with colder-than-normal temperatures and snow showers.
“I believe we only had 14 teams signed up,” association official Vince Zachetti said. “We almost doubled it, and it might be a record. We were able to change the date because Bill (Sarsfield, Madison Club pro) was able to switch some things for us.”
Finishing second at 12-under were the Fajt brothers (Kevin and Brian) and Sean Knapp, and third place at 12-under went to Bo Ruffner, Bryan Grejtak and Mike Polinsky.
Placing fourth at 11-under were Mike Marsico, Cole Davis and Noah Spang, and four teams were at 10-under.
The next county event will be June 13, the Better-Ball at Greensburg Country Club. The Junior tournament is June 18 at Latrobe Country Club.
