One of the players most experienced with the Pittsburgh Steelers defense has been absent through the first five organized team activity sessions.
Sean Davis has been in street clothes over the past two weeks at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex while teammates drilled “football in shorts.” One of only three starters who hasn’t been participating in the voluntary practices, Davis confirmed Wednesday that his absence is because of injury.
While Davis would not disclose the precise nature of the injury, he did say it was minor.
“For sure, I will definitely be on the grass before minicamp,” the safety said.
OTAs run through June 6; the following week (June 11-13) is the annual mandatory minicamp.

A second-round pick in 2016, Davis is entering his second season as the starting free safety after splitting his rookie season between slot corner and strong safety and then serving as the strong safety for all of 2017.
Former AAF player Kameron Kelly has been an unexpected fill-in with the first-team defense at free safety in Davis’ stead.
