Hempfield grad Maddie Holmberg off to good start at Penn State
Penn State senior Maddie Holmberg kicked off the indoor track and field season in impressive fashion.
The 2015 Hempfield grad won the pentathlon at the Bison Opener at Bucknell on Friday.

She blew away the competition by winning all five events and finishing with 4,075 points. She ranked second all-time at Penn State with 4,227 points and finished ninth in the 2019 NCAA Indoor track and Field Championships.
Holmberg won the 60-meter hurdles (8.84), high jump with a personal best of 1.66 meters, the shot put with a toss of 13.12 meters, long jump with a leap of 1.66 meters and then the 800-meter run in a time of 3:34.17.

Holmberg did not compete during the 2019 outdoor season. She earned All-American honors during the 2018 outdoor season by placing third in the heptathlon.
During the 2018 season, she also finished second at the Big Ten Championships.
