Brody Hoffman hit a grand slam on a 1-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Bushy Run walked off with a 7-5 victory against Young Township on Sunday in the Pennsylvania American Legion Region 7 tournament at Bedford.

Hoffman’s blast highlighted a five-run seventh inning for Bushy Run, which improved to 2-0 in the tournament. Young Township, a District 31 rival of Bushy Run, falls to 0-2.

Bushy Run is scheduled to face Phillipsburg at noon Monday at Forest High School in Sidman.

Heavy rains in Bedford forced the postponement of the Latrobe-Bedford game. That game has been moved to noon Monday at Bedford as the schedule has been revamped.

Phillipsburg lost to St. Michael, 3-2, in a game played at Somerset after heavy rain made the Everett field unplayable.

Bushy Run has qualified for the semifinals while St. Michael (1-1), Phillipsburg (1-1) and Young Township (0-2) battle for the other spot in the semifinals.

St. Michael and Young Township play at 3 p.m. at Forest Hills.

Young Township, which recently swept a three-game series against Bushy Run, grabbed a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning highlighted by a double by Cole Brink.

But Bushy Run, which rallied to defeat St. Michael on Saturday on a Gavin Good bases-loaded double, scored two runs on a single by Good.

In the seventh inning, Eric Birosak started the rally with a single. Good later singled him home, which set up Hoffman blast two batters later.

Hoffman also had a single in the game and Good two singles.

Brink doubled and singles for Young Township and Bradley Felix had two hits.

Brandon Rohrer was the winning pitcher and Niko Buffone took the loss.

Uniontown advances

Rain also hampered play at Beaver in the Region 6 tournament.

Uniontown, however, advanced to the finals Tuesday by squeezing past Charleroi, 8-7.

The North Allegheny and Blackhawk game was washed out and moved to 2 p.m. Monday.

Earlier, North Allegheny defeated Hopewell, 4-0, and Blackhawk blanked Charleroi, 10-0.
