Houston Texans cut ties with former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver
The Houston Texans have cut former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson. The Texans claimed Johnson off waivers after the Baltimore Ravens released him in Week 16. The Ravens cut Johnson after he refused to go into the team’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was upset by his role and lack of snaps.
The same thing seems to have occurred in Houston. He had just one catch in their game against the Los Angeles Chargers, and after the game, he appeared visibly upset. A lot of that seems to be coming down to his role, which Johnson believes should be bigger.
Now, Johnson will be a free agent this season, which has largely destroyed his value. Since Week 8, he has just four receptions. The Carolina Panthers moved on from him quickly after the Steelers traded him this March.
Johnson was drafted by the team in the 2019 NFL Draft and spent five seasons with the team before they traded him. He was in the last year of a two year contract this year. Now, he hopes he can find a new team this offseason.
