New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in the Oct. 6, 2019, game against the Washington Redskins, in Washington.

Nope. Sportswise, things aren’t great in Pittsburgh right now.

The Steelers are just a .500 team. The Pirates may never sniff .500 again. And the Penguins were barely clinging onto third place in the Metro Division when the coronavirus shutdown hit.

Could be worse, though. We could be in Boston.

That’s been rare to say of late. That city has been dominant when it comes to sports championships since 2001.

But in recent months, Mookie Betts was shipped to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their (now) ex-manager (Alex Cora) was swept up in the Astros cheating controversy and fired. And this NHL shutdown may truncate what otherwise could’ve been a Stanley Cup season for the Bruins.

The cherry on the sundae, though, is that Tom Brady is heading to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Imagine what it would’ve looked like if Mario Lemieux had played out his remaining days with the Atlanta Thrashers. That’s what we are talking about here.

Former TribLive Radio co-host Ken Laird is my guest for the podcast Thursday. He’s now at WEEI Radio in Boston.

He joined me to talk about how everything that was so perfect for so long in New England took a wrong turn. Who is truly to blame for the relationship souring in Foxborough to the point that Brady couldn’t end his career where it began?

Despite nine … nine … Super Bowl trips. And six rings.

We get into that topic, how the drafting of Jimmy Garoppolo played a role, Brady’s relationship with Antonio Brown, and where the Pats go from here.
