Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr., left, and his father Joey Porter Sr., a former Steelers outside linebacker, sign autographs during the Friday Night Lights practice Aug. 4 at Latrobe Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Joey Porter Sr. had plenty of special moments at the North Shore venue now called Acrisure Stadium. He presumably was given a game ball or two there, too.

None like Saturday, though, for what was surely a proud father.

Porter Sr. was tossed the ball from his son, Joey Jr., after the younger Porter had an interception during the second quarter of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night.

The elder Porter spent eight seasons as a popular outside linebacker for the Steelers, winning a Super Bowl ring for the 2005 season. His son was drafted by the Steelers with the first pick of the second round.

An ankle injury prevented Porter Jr. from playing in the Steelers’ preseason opener Aug. 11 at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That meant the first time he donned the Steelers uniform for a game was at the venue that was known as Heinz Field when Porter’s father was starring for the team.

Porter, who played in high school at North Allegheny, had one interception over his college career for Penn State.

Porter has been serving as the No. 3 outside corner when he’s been healthy during training camp. Saturday, he came in for first-team defense only for the dime package. His interception came while he was part of the second-team defense against the Bills’ second-teamers and their quarterback Matt Barkley.
