Injured Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby and defenseman Jack St. Ivany joined teammates for an optional practice session in Cranberry on Friday.

Neither player was cleared for contact, though, the nature of the practice session was non-contact for all players according to Dan Muse.

Both players are currently designated to injured reserve.

Neither Crosby nor St. Ivany was available for comment per team policy regarding injured players.

Crosby has been sidelined since suffering a suspected right leg injury while skating for Canada in the Olympics on Feb. 18. Since the NHL emerged from its break for the Olympics, Crosby has missed all five of the Penguins’ games, with the team going 2-2-1 over that span.

Upon placing him on injured reserve Feb. 25, the team announced he was expected to be sidelined a minimum of four weeks.

Muse indicated there has been no change in the timeline for Crosby’s recovery.

St. Ivany was placed on injured reserve Jan. 29 following surgery on his left hand and has missed the past 10 games. The team initially announced a time frame of eight weeks for recovery.

With the NHL’s schedule largely condensed to work around the Olympics, the Penguins excused several players from Friday’s practice.

Those absent included:

Forwards — Noel Acciari, Justin Brazeau, Egor Chinakhov, Connor Dewar, Evgeni Malkin, Anthony Mantha, Tommy Novak, Bryan Rust

Defenseman — Erik Karlsson
