MILAN — Sidney Crosby did not play in Canada’s 3-2 victory over Finland in the Olympic semifinals Friday because of an apparent right knee injury suffered in the quarterfinals against Czechia on Wednesday.
In the aftermath of the injury, Canada coach Jon Cooper has consistently refused to rule the 38-year-old captain out of the rest of the Games. He did so again after Friday’s matchup.
“We have 48 hours to decide that, but I will tell you he’s got a better chance of playing in the gold-medal game than he had playing in tonight’s game,” Cooper told the Canadian Press.
Canada will face the United States in the gold-medal game at 8:10 a.m. Sunday.
Connor McDavid wore the captain’s “C” for Friday’s game because international rules require a player to be designated captain for each contest. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were alternate captains.
