By any measure, Iowa’s Spencer Lee has been one of the most dominant athletes in college wrestling this season.

On Tuesday, the NCAA made it official.

Lee, a Franklin Regional graduate, was named winner of the Most Dominant Wrestler award for Division I.

Lee went 18-0 in matches against Division I opponents this season. He had four pins, nine technical falls, three major decisions and a forfeit, scoring bonus points for his team 17 times. The only opponent who managed to lose by decision to Lee this season was Michigan’s Jack Medley, who fell 8-1 in a dual meet.

The award is given to the wrestler who records the most average team points per match with a minimum of 17 matches wrestled. Lee averaged 5.0 points, finishing ahead of Penn State’s Mark Hall (4.70) and Princeton’s Pat Glory (4.54).

Northern Iowa’s Jacob Schwarm led Division I with 16 pins. George Mason’s Alex Madrigal led the country with 14 tech falls.

Lee is a leading candidate to win the Dan Hodge Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top performer in college wrestling. The award will be given out Monday.
