IUP, Cal U (Pa.) women's basketball teams move in national Division II rankings
The Indiana University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team moved up three spots to No. 8 in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll released Tuesday afternoon, while Cal U slipped six spots to No. 15.
The poll is the first released since Dec. 17 because of the holiday break.
The Crimson Hawks are riding a 10-game winning streak and are 12-1 overall. They also are 7-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. The latest victory came Monday in a 61-55 victory over Mercyhurst (3-10, 3-4).
Cal U has won two PSAC games in a row – 80-57 over Pitt-Johnstown and 68-59 over Slippery Rock – since a 79-53 loss at conference foe Millersville (5-7, 2-5) on Dec. 21.
IUP and Cal U are two of four teams from the Atlantic Region featured in the national poll. Virginia Union (9-1) is No, 6, and Bowie State (13-0) is No. 18.
The Vulcans return to action Wednesday with a PSAC home game against Shepherd, and IUP also plays Wednesday at Slippery Rock.
