A former IUP football lineman is taking his talents north.

Expect the landscape to be familiar to Matt Guevremont.

A 6-foot-4, 335-pound tackle, Guevremont was taken by the BC Lions in the fifth round of Thursday’s Canadian Football League Draft. He is a native of Pickering, Ontario.

The Vancouver-based Lions took Guevremont 40th overall. The Malone transfer started 12 games last season for IUP, which had one of the most productive offenses in the nation with 44.2 points and 476.7 yards a game.

Guevremont, who also played a year at Chabot Community College, is the first IUP player to be drafted professionally since Akwasi Owusu-Ansah was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
