The IUP women’s basketball team held its position while Cal (Pa.) slipped two spots in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday afternoon.

The Crimson Hawks, again No. 13 in the rankings, went 2-0 on the road last week, defeating the University of D.C. and Mansfield, to improve to 8-1 overall. The wins extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

IUP’s defense shined in the victories as it gave up an average of 36 points.

In the win over Mansfield, redshirt junior guard Courtney Alexander, an Our Lady of the Sacred Heart graduate, drained six 3-pointers for a career-best 18 points.

Cal (7-1) dipped from No. 9 to No. 11 in the latest rankings after suffering its first loss of the season, an 80-66 setback to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Shippensburg on Saturday.

It was the Vulcans’ first game in 13 days. Hempfield graduate Monica Burns led the team with 21 points.

Drury (Mo.) remains No. 1 with an 8-0 record with Lubbock Christian (8-0) and Grand Valley State (8-0) staying at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Cal U returns to action Dec. 17 at home against West Virginia State, while IUP next plays Dec. 20 at Shepherd (W.Va.).
