IUP's Fedor sweeps PSAC golf awards

But now the IUP golf standout can call himself a double award-winner in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Fedor was tabbed the athlete and freshman of the year in the PSAC, which announced its fall postseason awards and all-conference teams on Tuesday.

With four top-10 finishes in five tournaments and a victory at the PSAC Championship, Fedor was a runaway winner for both awards. He carded a fifth-place finish at the Davis & Elkins tournament and tied for ninth at the St. Rose Fall Shootout. He posted a 74.9 scoring average over 11 rounds.

Dan Braun of IUP, who is quite familiar with Fedor’s game, was named the PSAC Coach of the Year. IUP won its 29th PSAC team title and captured three total titles. The Crimson Hawks finished as the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.

Cal (Pa.) senior Ryan Smith joined Fedor on the All-PSAC First Team, along with IUP senior Jeremy Eckenrode, Millersville senior Matt Spak, and junior Chris Warner of West Chester.

Smith has made the first team three times.

On the women’s side, senior Meghan O’Mara of West Chester was the PSAC’s top athlete in golf, while top rookie honors went to Gannon’s Maria Arenas.

O’Mara was dominant as she won six titles in 12 rounds. She won the PSAC by nine strokes and averaged 75.42.

Arenas had four top-10 finishes, including a ninth at the PSAC Championship.

Scott Stano of Gannon was the coach of the year. Gannon won its fourth PSAC title.

The first team included Arenas, O’Mara, freshman Alyssa Drehs of Gannon, senior Rebecca Red Horse of Gannon, and senior Abigail Vietmeier (Montour) of Mercyhurst.
