Shown while pullin in a catch duirng a game last month, Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Eric Ebron missed Wednesday’s practice because of a hand injury that was not previously acknowledged by the team.

Tight end Eric Ebron joined the ranks of the injured Pittsburgh Steelers, but a pair of core special teams players took an encouraging step back into the lineup by being full participants in Wednesday’s practice.

Marcus Allen and Derek Watt returned to practice after missing last week’s game because of injuries to their foot and hamstring, respectively.

Ebron has a hand injury that was not previously acknowledged by the Steelers. Guard David DeCastro (abdomen), center Maurkice Pouncey (foot) and receiver Diontae Johnson (back) also did not practice.

But Johnson and Pouncey have regularly taken Wednesdays off from practice this season. DeCastro, similarly, as a nine-year veteran could at times be given a day off from practice.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt also were given what are regular Wednesday idle days. Smith-Schuster is dealing with a nagging knee injury.

T.J. Watt was limited from practice because of a shoulder injury. He briefly left each of the past two games because of injury but finished both. He sat out one day of practice last week because of a knee injury.

The Steelers host the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. Sunday.
