Stats: As a senior in 2024, Sawyer had nine sacks, three forced fumbles, 59 tackles (25 solo) and six passes defended in 16 games.

Hometown: Pickerington, Ohio

Tidbits: Worked his way up from honorable mention all-Big Ten as a part-time starter his sophomore season to third-team all-Big Ten the following year and second-team all-Big Ten as a senior. … Was one of the most sought-after incoming college recruits in the country in the 2021 class. … Highlight of his career was an 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the final minutes of what had been a one-score game in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Texas. … Was a team captain of the eventual national champion Ohio State team. … Sawyer had 4½ sacks during the Buckeyes’ four playoff games. … In his career, totaled 20 sacks, 25½ tackles for loss and six forced fumbles. … Is the first Ohio State player the Steelers have drafted in a decade (CB Doran Grant, fourth round, 2015). Grant had been the sixth Ohio State player the Steelers had drafted over a six-year span. … Sawyer becomes the fourth Ohio State player on the current Steelers roster. … Each of the Steelers’ first three picks of this draft have been from Big Ten schools. The most recent time the Steelers made their first three selections all from the same conference was 2015 — Bud Dupree, Senquez Golson and Sammie Coates all played in the SEC.
