Jackson, Fajt qualify for Sunnehanna Amateur
A day after Palmer Jackson and Kevin Fajt won the Westmoreland County Golf Association’s Better-Ball tournament, the duo were in Johnstown participating in the Sunnehanna Amateur qualifier.
Jackson and Fajt each earned a spot in the prestigious tournament by earning one of the five qualifying spots.
Jackson shot a 1-under-par 69. Also shooting 1-under were Carson Bacha and Christopher Williard. Fajt and Thomas Lamorte each shot an even-par 70.
Among the players already committed are 2017 USGA Senior Amateur champion Sean Knapp of Oakmont and 2018 West Penn Amateur champion Connor Schmidt of PetersTownship.
Greensburg’s Mark Goetz shot a 1-over 71 and is the first alternate.
Other district golfers in the qualifier included Pittsburgh’s Andrew Friend (74), Latrobe’s Brady Pevarnik (75), Central Catholic’s Jimmy Meyers (74), Laurel’s Evan Long (75), Peters Township’s Jake Sollon and Elizabeth Forward’s Angus McHolme (85).
Jackson rallied to win the AJGA Memorial Junior at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus.
