Jackson, Goetz qualify for US Amateur

Hannastown Golf Club members Palmer Jackson and Mark Goetz posted the top two scorers at the United States Golf Association’s U.S. Amateur qualifier on Tuesday at Quicksilver Golf Course near Midway.

Jackson, a Franklin Regional grad who will be playing for Notre Dame this fall, followed his 1-under par 71 on Monday with a 5-under 67 to finish with a 6-under 138.

Goetz, a Kiski Prep grad and West Virginia junior, shot a 5-under 67 on Monday and a 1-over 73 to finish with a 4-under 140.

Trent Karlik, who graduated from Montour and Robert Morris, finished the two-day event at 3-under 141. He shot a 3-under 69 during the second round.

The alternates, both a 1-under, are Jimmy Ellis and Tanner Johnson.

The 119th U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 12-18 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
