Pitt’s 2019 recruiting class grew to four players Wednesday when junior-college guard Ryan Murphy told coach Jeff Capel he plans to enroll this year.
Murphy, 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, is rated a two-star prospect by Rivals.com after he averaged 18.5 points per game last season at New Mexico Junior College. He played in only 13 games (all starts) at NMJC after suffering a foot injury.

Pitt will be Murphy’s third school after he played the 2017-18 season at Charlotte where he hit 30 of 75 3-point attempts.
Murphy signed with Washington State last year, but requested his release when coach Ernie Kent was fired at the end of the season, the Spokesman-Review (Wash.) reported.
He has offers from Texas Tech, South Florida, New Mexico State and 14 other schools, according to Rivals.
Pitt has signed letters of intent from incoming 6-6 freshmen forwards Justin Champagnie of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Gerald Drumgoole of LaPorte, Ind. Karim Coulibaly, a 6-8, 230-pound center from Scotland (Pa.) Performance Institute, has verbally commited to the Panthers.
Pitt has six returning scholarship players on its roster after the departures of graduating seniors Jared Wilson-Frame and Sidy N’Dir and transfers Malik Elllison and Khameron Davis.
