Pittsburgh Penguins
Shown while skating Tuesday in Cranberry, Jeff Carter went through his first full practice with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. He centered a second line between Jason Zucker and Jared McCann.

Jeff Carter did everything as advertised during his first practice with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

A day after Mike Sullivan indicated Carter would start his Penguins career at center and contribute to both special teams, that’s exactly what Carter did during Wednesday’s workout at PPG Paints Arena. Acquired from the Los Angeles Kings in a trade announced early Monday morning, Carter took line rushes skating between Jason Zucker and Jared McCann in what was a second line during Wednesday’s practice.

Carter also took regular turns on the power play and penalty-killing units.

During 5-on-5 simulated play, it was Zucker who said he played on his “off” wing with fellow left-handed shot McCann moved to the left after he’d been centering the line in recent games.

“He’s an awesome guy,” Zucker said of the 36-year-old, 16-year NHL veteran Carter. “The little bit I’ve got to know him so far, he’s super nice. Very talkative. He wants to learn the system quick, and he’s been around an extremely long time and has had an unbelievable career. We’re happy to have him. He’s going to add a lot.”

Keep up with the Pittsburgh Penguins all season long.
