Robbie Mertz and Jordan Dover paced the Riverhounds to their first victory of the 2020 season Sunday when they defeated Louisville City, 3-1, in their inaugural game at Lynn Family Stadium.
Now, the two Riverhounds veterans have reaped the rewards as they were named to the USL Championship Team of the Week. Both players scored goals in the season opener.
Dover’s goal, just before the end of the first half, tied the game leading into the locker room. Kenardo Forbes placed a perfect pass over the Louisville City defense and Dover used a nifty toe-poke to place it past the Louisville City goalkeeper.

While Dover’s goal tied the game, Mertz’s tally put the Riverhounds ahead for good and it came right at the beginning of the second half. Ropapa Mensah received a ball at the top of Louisville City’s box and passed it to an overlapping Mertz, who finished it off with a left-footed shot to the right side of the net.

Mensah also received recognition for his performance on Sunday. The first-year Riverhounds forward tallied two second-half assists and was named to the Team of the Week bench.
The Riverhounds continue their season July 18 when they travel across Pennsylvania to take on Philadelphia Union II at 7:30 p.m. at Subaru Park. The match will be televised on 22 The Point.
