Pirates third baseman Jose Osuna doubles during the second inning against the Marlins Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at PNC Park.

Jose Osuna did not make the trip to Houston with the Pittsburgh Pirates because of “lower neck discomfort,” the club said in a statement, and will return to Pittsburgh this week for further examination.

Osuna, a first baseman-outfielder, slashed .154/.244/.231 with three doubles, no home runs and two RBIs, striking out 10 times in 21 games in Grapefruit League play.

The Pirates are playing two exhibition games against the Astros, then open the season at Cincinnati on Thursday.
