PNC Park shown during a Pittsburgh Pirates game last season. When — if ever — will games be played there this season?

Officially, the 2020 Major League Baseball season has been postponed by only two weeks. Functionally, it’s going to be much longer than that before regular-season games are played – if at all.

And with no games to take wagers on as the nation shuts down out of concern for coronavirus, at least one sports book has decided to present odds on when the season will begin. July 1 was established as the even-money “favorite.”

BetOnline.ag has established odds for a bet that the next MLB game will happen July 1 or sooner. If you believe the majors won’t be playing by then, it’s 5/7 odds (-140 in betting parlance).

Believe it’ll be a month prior? You can get 11/4 odds (+275) a game will be played June 1 or sooner – or 2/9 (-450) one won’t be.

The latest Bet Online will take action for the start of the MLB season is Aug. 1 – “Yes,” the next MLB regular-season game will be played by then is 4/9 (-225); “No” is 8/5 (plus-160).

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week recommended against gatherings with 50 people-or-more for a period of eight weeks. Even a game played in front of no fans would require many more individuals than that to gather.
