Mother-to-be Katie Miller Gee claims 10-shot win at PA Mid-Amateur
Katie Miller Gee took a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Pennsylvania Women’s Golf Association Mid-Amateur on Tuesday. Then, she hit the accelerator and raced past everybody.
No bumps on this road. Well, maybe one.
Miller Gee, the newly named girls golf coach at her alma mater of Hempfield, made five birdies to close with a 2-under-par 71 and claim a 10-shot victory at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting.
A 3-time state amateur champion who shared the mid-amateur title in 2020, Miller Gee is pregnant with her first child.
“I just really needed to focus on a couple of swing thoughts and my six-month pregnant thing I’ve got going on,” she told the PWGA. “It’s just a little bit different for me, balance-wise.”
A member at Green Oaks Country Club in Verona, Miller Gee opened with a 75 but finished the 36-hole tournament at even 146.
After a bogey Tuesday on the 8th hole, she played the next 10 in 1-under.
Katrin Wolfe of Northhampton Country Club was the runner-up at 10-over 156. Molly Gorman (Wyoming Valley C.C.) and Catherine Elliott (Merion G.C.) tied for third at 12-over.
It nearly was a win-win Tuesday for Miller Gee and her husband, Devin Gee, the head pro at Oakmont Country Club.
He led after the first round of the Westmoreland Country Club Classic hosted by the Tri-State Section PGA.
Gee shot 68-71 to finish tied for second with Adam Courson at 3-under 139. Kevin Shields won at 5-under by shooting a closing 67.
