Keeping the ‘Heinz’ in Acrisure Stadium — company, Steelers reach agreement

“Heinz Field” — the name — is no more. But Pittsburghers still can get their fill of Heinz at the field where the Pittsburgh Steelers play.

Earlier this year, Heinz was dropped as the naming-rights sponsor for the 68,400-seat outdoor venue on Pittsburgh’s North Shore. But the Kraft Heinz company announced Friday it had agreed to a multi-year sponsorship to serve as an “official sponsor” of the Steelers.

With that, perhaps most notably to those at the games, the “Heinz Red Zone” will still be signaled on the scoreboard when the Steelers drive inside the opponent’s 20 yard-line. While the large physical replica ketchup bottles are no more, digital bottles will endure to “pour” ketchup into the scoreboard.

One of the two old bottles will remain on site, though: it will serve as what the company is calling “an Instagram worthy” photo opp that fans can pose next to.

The Steelers open up their regular-season home schedule Sunday against the New England Patriots. Fans who attend, though, shouldn’t expect to see the 35-foot ketchup bottles this week. According to the Kraft Heinz release, the company “aim(s) to complete the new in-stadium signage and installations by the end of the 2022 season, pending approval from the Sports & Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.”
