John Calipari regularly makes an annual stop at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, and he’s developed a friendship with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

The same can be said of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Clint Hurdle.

Calipari, the University of Kentucky basketball coach, attended Saturday’s Pirates game against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park. A Moon Township native who played basketball at Clarion, Calipari posted photos to his verified Twitter account of the pre-game experience.

Calipari wrote of Hurdle, “One of the best managers in the majors — EVER! And one of the best human beings EVER!” Calipari also said that Hurdle “took care” of him, his assistants and a group of high school friends.

A basketball Hall of Famer, Calipari signed a lifetime contract with Kentucky earlier this year. A former Pitt assistant, Calipari has also been head coach at UMass, Memphis and the New Jersey Nets.
