Hannastown Golf Club is host of the Westmoreland County Amateur.

It should be no surprise to know someone from Hannastown Golf Club is leading the Westmoreland County Amateur.

Hannastown Golf Club has earned the distinction of having one of the strongest memberships in Western Pennsylvania.

Seven of the top 10 golfers in the field at the Westmoreland County Amateur call Hannastown their home.

Leading the pack after Day 1 of the tournament, which started Saturday at Hannastown, is Greensburg native Kevin Fajt, who shot a 2-under-par 68.

The final round begins at noon Sunday.

Right behind Fajt are Oakmont native Sean Knapp and Greensburg native Mark Goetz, both a 1-under 69. Goetz had seven birdies during his round. Knapp and Goetz are Hannastown’s members.

Goetz was the 2019 winner. Gregor Meyer, the 2020 champion, is missing the tournament to play in the Eastern Amateur. Meyer also is a member of Hannastown.

John Jones of Hill Crest Country Club in Burrell is fourth after shooting an even-par 70.

Sam Brourman is fifth at 1-over. Matt Montgomery is sixth at 2-over. Louis Bruzda is seventh at 3-over, andtied for eighth are Palmer Jackson, David DeNezza and Arnold Cutrell, all at 4-over.

Brourman, Montgomery, Jackson and DeNezza are Hannastown members.

Turowski added to Junior PGA field

Alex Turowski (Penn-Trafford) learned he was added to the Junior PGA Championship in Lexington, Ky., which begins Monday.

He and Carter Pitcairn were added to the field after finishing the Tri-State Section PGA Junior Championship as alternates in early June.

Alex Turowski and Pitcairn, who plays for Central Catholic, will join qualifiers Rocco Salvitti (Canonsburg/Central Catholic) and Nick Turowski, Alex’s brother, in the field. Salvitti shot a 7-under 137 at Fox Run Golf Course, while Nick Turowski shot a 3-under 141.

Alex Turowski was forced to pull out of the Westmoreland County Amateur.
