Kevin Wanichko promoted to track and field coach at Saint Vincent
Kevin Wanichko was named the men’s track and field coach at Saint Vincent on Tuesday.
Wanichko served as the women’s cross country and track and field coach since July, 2016. He was the men’s track and field assistant the past season.
The Bailey, N.C. native is a 2012 graduate of Saint Vincent. He also coached at Chatham in 2014 and ‘15. He earned a master’s in sports management from Cal (Pa.).
Wanichko shined in both cross country and track for the Bearcats during his four-year career.
He won the 2011 Presidents’ Athletic Conference cross country title.
During his career he held five school records (1,500, 3,000, 5,000, 1,600 relay and 3,200 relay). Wanichko was named to the PAC’s 60th anniversary team in 2014.
Wanichko was a five-time all-state runner and won a state championship in the 2007 North Carolina indoor mile at Southern Nash High School.
In 2019 during the Boston Marathon, Wanichko became an internet hero when he aided a fellow runner during the race.
