Pirates legend Steve Blass acknowledges the crowd next to Greg Brown, as he is honored before the home opener last season, Blass’ final one as part of the broadcast team.

Following Steve Blass as Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster would have been a tough act for any individual. So three former players will do it.

Former Pirates players Kevin Young, Matt Capps and Michael McKenry will rotate as color commentator analysts for games on television and radio this season, the team announced Friday.

The trio joins holdover analysts Bob Walk and John Wehner and play-by-play announcers Greg Brown and Joe Block.

Young spent 11 seasons over two tenures as a first baseman for the Pirates in the 1990s and 2000s. Capps served as closer during the latter parts of his five years with the team (2005-09), and McKenry was a reserve catcher from 2011-13 and has worked pre- and postgame duties for TV’s AT&T SportsNet.

Blass retired after last season, his 60th as an employee for the Pirates as a player, broadcaster and in other roles.

The Pirates also announced their spring training broadcast schedule. Fourteen games will be on AT&T SportsNet and 20 on 93.7 FM. Five others will be on Pirates.com.
