Knapp set for second round of U.S. Senior Amateur

Oakmont native Sean Knapp is set to tee off at 2:05 p.m. Sunday in the second round of stroke play at the U.S. Senior Amateur at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.

The Hannastown Golf Club member shot a 76 (4 over) in Saturday’s first round and landed in a tie for 53rd.

Of the 156 players in the field, the top 64 after Sunday’s second round of stroke play will advance to match play starting Monday.

Competition from the round of 64 will continue through Thursday’s 18-hole championship match.

Knapp captured the 2017 U.S. Senior Amateur championship at Minikhada Club in Minneapolis, Minn., and finished as the runner-up at last year’s event at Eugene (Oregon) Country Club.

With those finishes, as well his top-15 age-eligible points standing in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Knapp earned exempt status for this year’s tournament.
