Kobe Bryant, the former Pennsylvania high school phenom who became a five-time NBA champion, died Sunday in a helicopter crash in Southern California. He was 41.

Bryant won five titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, who acquired him in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets after he was selected 13th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Bryant played at Lower Merion High School and in the 1996 McDonald’s All-American game at the Civic Arena in Pittsbugh. He then spent his entire 20-year career with the Lakers. He was an 18-time NBA All-Star and an 11-time first-team selection.

His 33,643 points rank fourth in NBA history. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James passed Bryant for third on the list Saturday night.

This photo gallery looks back at moments in Bryant’s storied career.
