Austin Butler is tough to defend one on one. Opponents will soon be trying to slow the former Latrobe star in a 3-on-3 format.

The former Latrobe star can earn some cash along the way.

Butler, who just completed his grad season at Charlotte, has been selected to play for the 3x3U National Championship April 1-3 at The Sugar Mill in New Orleans during Final Four Weekend.

There are 64 players in the event considered to be professional prospects, and they will represent the 32 NCAA Division I conferences. They will compete for a $150,000 purse.

Players will be paired with those from other conferences to make up 16 four-man teams.

Butler will play for Team American Made squad that pairs Conference USA with the American Conference.

Pool play will be April 1 and 2. The top two teams receive a bye to the quarterfinals.

Each win before the quarterfinals will net each team $1,000. A quarterfinal win is worth $5,000, with $10,000 on the line for a semifinal victory.

The champions get $50,000.

Butler, who played four years at Holy Cross, averaged 12.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in his final collegiate season.

He started all 31 games for the 49ers.

Butler finished his five-year college career with 1,713 points, 744 rebounds and 232 assists.
