Latrobe, Young Township advance to D31 championship game

Regular-season champion Latrobe and third-place finisher Young Township will play for the District 31 American Legion championship after sweeping their semifinal series Sunday.

Latrobe got four RBIs from Vinny Amatucci and a strong pitching performance from Peyton Henry and defeated rival Unity, 10-1, in Game 2 to sweep the best-of-three series.

Young Township used a three-run third inning and held on to defeat Bushy Run, 3-2, in Game 2 of their series.

The championship game will be 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Latrobe’s Legion-Keener Field. Both teams have qualified for the Region 7 tournament beginning July 16 at Bedford.

The third-place game Wednesday between Unity and Bushy Run will determine the third team from District 31 to qualify for the tournament.

Henry allowed four hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out 10.

Amatucci went 4 for 5 with a double. Lou Amatucci went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Latrobe pounded out 14 hits. Logan Short had a double and single, Henry and Jake Albaugh each had two hits and Rayce King doubled.

Owen Miele doubled for Unity. Chase Sickenberger was charged with the loss.

Latrobe grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning and tacked on two in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the seventh.

At West Lebanon, the Renegades got RBIs from Braden Staats, Haden Brink and Bradley Felix in the third inning.

Winning pitcher Dustin Coleman allowed seven hits. Bushy Run got an RBI hit from Eric Birosak in the fourth inning and an RBI hit from Brody Hoffman in the sixth inning.

Nicola Buffone doubled for Young Township, and Staats had two hits.

Hoffman had three hits for Bushy Run.
