Shippensburg men’s basketball coach Chris Fite, a Latrobe native, has guided the Raiders to a 10-3 record and a 6-1 PSAC mark.

Latrobe alum Chris Fite played professional basketball for more than a decade in Europe.

Before that, he was a dominant post player at Rochester and won an NCAA Division III championship in 1990.

His college exploits are getting recognized over three decades later.

Fite, the men’s basketball coach at Shippensburg, is going into the new University Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a member of the inaugural class.

The ’92 Rochester alum and two-time UAA player of the year is one of 36 inductees.

The 6-foot-9 Fite still holds the Yellowjackets’ career scoring record with 2,066 points. He was the Most Outstanding Player of the 1990 Division III Final Four.

Rochester was the national runner-up in 1992 with Fite making the all-tournament team.

He was a National Association of Basketball Coaches All-American in ‘91 and ’92.

Fite has guided Shippensburg for 11 years and has a record of 193-131. The Raiders won a PSAC title in 2017 and went to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 in ’18.

He also coached at Saint Vincent and IUP.
