Leechburg grad Braylan Lovelace contributes to Pitt's win over Florida State

Leechburg graduate Braylan Lovelace (center) matched a career high with 10 tackles in Pitt’s win over Florida State.

The Pitt football team moved to 2-1 in ACC play and 4-2 overall with Saturday’s 34-31 win at Florida State.

Leechburg graduate Braylan Lovelace posted a career high- tying 10 tackles in the victory. He was one of three Panthers defenders to have 10 or more stops against the Seminoles.

The junior linebacker also recorded 10 tackles in a loss to Louisville on Sept. 27, one week after making nine stops and intercepting a pass in the Backyard Brawl at West Virginia.

Lovelace owns 40 tackles (17 solo) through six games. That ranks third on the team behind Rasheem Biles (53) and Lyle Louis (42).

The 40 tackles put him at 117 over three seasons.

Grove City: Dom DiNinno (Kiski Area) intercepted two passes, returning one 48 yards for a touchdown, as the Wolverines (3-2, 2-1 Presidents Athletic Conference) defeated Waynesburg, 24-14, on homecoming Saturday afternoon. His score with 7:09 left in the second quarter gave Grove City a 10-0 lead. A two-way player for the Wolverines, DiNinno also finished the game with four tackles.

Slippery Rock: Ben Lane (Freeport) recorded a team-high 10 tackles for The Rock defense in a 45-38 loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival Cal (Pa.) on Sept 27. The junior defensive back owns 24 tackles on the season for Slippery Rock, which improved to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play with Saturday’s 49-7 win over Seton Hill.

Saint Francis: Freshman Darian Nelson (Plum) registered a career-high six tackles in Saturday’s 52-7 loss to Duquesne. He posted four tackles in his collegiate debut against Bucknell on Sept. 27.

Boys Soccer

Lock Haven: Billy Lawrence (Springdale) assisted on goals in three straight games for the Eagles, who are 6-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the PSAC. Lock Haven went 2-0-1 in those games, and Lawrence owns five assists this season. He recorded a season-best two assists in a 4-2 win over Shippensburg on Sept. 17.

Saint Francis: Carson Krushansky (Fox Chapel) recorded his first collegiate point in a win over Mercyhurst in Northeast Conference play Oct. 2. He assisted on the game’s lone goal. Krushansky, a freshman defender, has appeared in five games this fall.

Pitt-Greensburg: Lucas Pittman (Plum) is second on the Bobcats men’s soccer team in both goals (4) and total points (10). Pitt-Greensburg is 7-4-3 overall and 4-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. He scored twice in a 3-0 win over Penn State-Altoona on Sept. 30.

Women’s Soccer

Saint Vincent: Jordan Kirkwood (Valley) is a consistent starter on the attack for the Bearcats. The junior forward owns five goals and two assists in 12 games. Three of her five scores have come in three of her team’s past four games. She had Saint Vincent’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Waynesburg on Saturday. She also found the back of the net in recent shutout wins over Bethany (5-0) and Hiram (3-0).

Cal (Pa.): Macrina Robb (Knoch) scored her first collegiate goal Sept. 24 to help the Vulcans forge a 1-1 tie at Presidents Athletic Conference foe Seton Hill. The freshman midfielder/forward owns eight shots on goal in 11 games, all starts.

Mt. Union: Madeline Boulos (Deer Lakes) scored her first goal of the 2025 season in a loss to Case Western Reserve on Sept. 27. It was the lone goal for the Raiders in the 4-1 setback. Boulos, a senior forward, also assisted on a goal in a 2-1 loss to Albion on Sept. 21. The goal against Case was the 10th of her collegiate career. She scored a team-best seven goals as a sophomore in 2023.

Washington & Jefferson: Gianna Patterson (Fox Chapel) is 2-1-1 over four starts in goal in her collegiate debut for the Presidents. She totaled 21 saves and three goals against over the four games, including a team-best 12 stops in a 1-0 loss to Chatham on Friday.

Men’s Cross Country

IUP: Mike Formica (Knoch) is having a standout senior season for the Crimson Hawks. He shattered his own personal 8K record by 41 seconds and broke the school record in winning the Crimson race Sept. 27 at Lock Haven. He finished with a time of 24 minutes, 12.70 seconds. Formica then placed 85th (24:18.2) out of more than 1,000 runners at the Paul Short Run Oct. 3 at Lehigh University.

Women’s Tennis

Penn State-Altoona: Lexi Colaianni (Kiski Area) helped the Lions win their 12th match of the season, a program single-season record, in a 7-0 victory over Penn State Harrisburg on Friday. She won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. The AMCC Player of the Week Sept. 22, Colaianni is 11-2 overall in singles matches and a combined 10-1 with a pair of doubles partners.
